About

I graduated from California State University of Northridge with a Bachelor's degree in Political Science in 1991. I completed my Master's of Arts in Rhetoric and Composition in 1993 at Brigham Young University. And after that, I studied in the doctoral program of Instructional Psychology and Technology at Brigham Young University. I have taught composition and technical communication courses at Brigham Young University and for Brigham Young University's Independent Study for more than 17 years. In addition to teaching at the university, I have worked as an admission officer for Brigham Young University and as a full-time editor and technical writer for companies such as Monster.com.

My Master's work centered around the use of technology in the composition classroom--and its ability/inability to provide students with more multicultural exchanges (I created and co-taught a composition course that took place in two different states, providing students with cross-cultural exchange.). I continue to research issues of multiculturalism and technology (social media, email, blogging, facebook)--and their impact/benefit for the college writing student.

I love to read, blog, meet new people, and travel. I love to challenge myself and my students. I truly believe that with good intentions and hard work, anything is possible.

I have been married for over 20 years to my best friend and an incredible man (Dave), and together we have six INCREDIBLE children (all adopted).

On a completely non-academic note: I was fortunate enough to be a castaway on the American television/gameshow Survivor ... twice! I played in 2011 on Survivor South Pacific, and again in 2012 on Survivor Caramoan: Fans vs. Favorites. Those experiences changed my life profoundly and hopefully have made me a better teacher in the process. Something about literally living off the land for 39 days--it gives you incredible insight and perspective.
